7、A Dream of Mine | |
All the time, I have a dream: let Beijing become a heaven of the world of the infertility patients who are cured successfully, have their children, and enjoy family happiness.
One day in the summer of 2005, a friend of mine, who was engaged in the traditional Chinese medicine researches, came to chat with me. He said he was just discussing with somebody for a cooperation about setting up a hospital. In this project, the cooperation was just between the Chinese doctors and foreign enterprises. I said to him: "That’s good, you please help me to get investment to set up the infertility hospital." With a smile he promised, and took the book Xiangxi Extraordinary Woman Mo Shu-zhen, my biography, as the introduction material.
After half a month, he came back, said there was an international company who was very interested in my technology, the company thought that the market potential was very large, and it is necessary to have a discussion. They want to discuss with me.
This is a Canadian company, which is strong and has many investment projects in many countries. The manager of project department warmly welcomed us. He said that the market of Chinese medicine is very good. They hoped we could cooperate in the future. If the infertility hospitals in Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangdong opened up, the most important market in China would be occupied. And they would give me very high technology shares. They asked my family clinics in Hunan to join for unified operation.
I said: "I myself have no problem, but I have to discuss with my family about the family clinics. The manager was worried and said: "We need to adapt with each other as soon as possible. Can you tomorrow come here?" "Tomorrow is Sunday." "Then you come on Monday. Are you also contacting with other companies?”
I laughed. I appreciated his enthusiasm.
My friend and his Foreign Investment Promotion Bureau friend were also very astonished by the enthusiasm of those foreigners. Originally on the way coming, they two were full of worries and made some supposes, having never thought that the foreigners were so interested in this subject.
I said: "If this can be successful, I will be very grateful to you." Before coming here, we already talked about and agreed on how to reward them.
On the second day in the afternoon, I received the phone call of my friend and he repeatedly asked me not contact with foreigners, all of things would be represented by him, so I should give him a written proof of carte blanche. It made me felt very strange because all of us were in the same city, everything would be OK if they come to me or I go to see them to talk with each other, why making it so complicated? In addition, this is my own business, how can I trouble someone else to do it? But he meant still let me not go to talk directly. I thought, this is a thing that he started it, he let me not to go, I wouldn’t go. I didn’t give him written proof of carte blanche either, because I was not sure what he was going to do with it……
After a few days, my friend came and said to me that as a middleman how many shares he should have in the program, and the secret recipe of treatment of infertility should be put into the safe, someday if I quit, the company can go on with it. I thought, this is difficult for me, if someone took the secret recipe, what should I do for protection?
Things got more and more ridiculous, all like an absurd joke. At last the middleman changed face and became vicious, even the brotherly friendship lost, we parted on bad terms.
I was anxious and felt just like a piece of hay of summer in my heart.
One day in the afternoon, a beautiful young lady came to my clinic and asked some questions about treatment of gynaecological diseases. She graduated from a famous university with a master degree, she was fond of writing too. We talked very agreeably.
After a few days, she came back again. She said someone would like to invest to open the hospital, and her boyfriend was the President of a company. She called her boyfriend and asked him to come. After work, her boyfriend came to our hospital.
The President said: "After I got to know you from my friend’s introduction, I opened your website, wow, in the world there is such a good thing, you can win the Nobel Prize.”
He said: "I will recommend you to the shareholders of our company. When you are free you just come to our company to have a look."
Later, I went to his company to visit. The company was in a magnificent building. Their place was very large and many employees were working now. It was really a big company.
We often went out to have dinner, walking around in park.
One day in the evening, the President invited me to go out to drink tea. We talked specially about opening the hospital. He said, he would like to use his own contribution to open a hospital. I was a little disappointed, because I knew that the personal financial resource after all was limited, if there was a risk, you yourself should bear it alone.
After the talk, in the evening on the following day, his girlfriend called me many times and asked me to tell her what result of the negotiation was. I felt very uncomfortable. I thought, your President reporting to you would be enough, why you still let me report? If you were not at ease, why didn’t you come to talk about it all together.
Quickly the autumn came. One day after work, the President would come to invite me to dinner. During the dinner, the President said, my medicine was really good, his girlfriend had ovarian cyst, by taking my medicine 20 doses her ovarian cyst disappeared. He said the address of hospital was settled and after the meal he would bring me to have a look there.
It was seven o 'clock already, on the way to the capital airport, I could not see the scenery clearly except for only the tall trees on both sides. Half an hour later the car stopped. Nearby the road there was a unit with shingle, an old four-story building in the courtyard under green trees.
The President said: "I will invest 30 million here to buy twenty acres, ask a Hangzhou garden designer to come to design the hospital, make a garden-like infertility hospital." I said: "That's so great, the only thing is that this old building is a killjoy."
He said: "Destroy it, to build a new one." He was really rich in louder talking.
The wind in the courtyard was blowing the branches of trees, glowering, there wasn’t any people around, palpitated with fear, I didn't know why he brought me to such a desolate place at such a time.
On the way back, the President said: "After two days I will go to Hangzhou on business, you go with me for a distraction?"
I didn't answer him. How could I go out with somebody else’s boyfriend for a distraction?
A month passed, the President was back from the business trip?
It is a Sunday, in the afternoon, I got a phone call from the President’s girlfriend, who invited me to go to climb the Fragrant Hills. She would be waiting for me at the gate of Tsinghua University and the President come to meet me. I said I would take a taxi. “The President is still working and his unit is within easy reach of my house,”said she.
When I met the President again, everyone seemed a little more silence. The President said his money was not sufficient enough, he didn’t want to open the hospital now. I also breathed a sigh of relief, said: "I am also afraid, if by any chance you put money in it, but not able to make that much back, you may complain about it."
After getting together with his girlfriend, we started for Fragrant Hills. On the way, there were many cars and many people. When arrived at the top of mountain, the autumn wind was cool, making us feel a little cold.
We sat down and listen to the President talking about the beautiful landscape of West Lake.
Even his girlfriend also repeatedly persuaded me to go to Hangzhou. The President’s company had a hotel over there. His girl friend from time to time threw out some tart words. I thought, I did not yet go, how you just became so jealous?
His girl friend asked: "What do you think, what is the man, what is the woman?"
I said: "The man is a mountain, the woman is water."
The President said: "The woman should turn around the man."
I didn't pick up his words, I said in my mind: each woman should turn around her own man, if around other men, what a mess this world would become?
My hope of setting up an infertility hospital dashed to pieces again after looking forward earnestly for more than two months. The distress in my heart one can imagine.
In the evening after I came back home, I found that my eyes could not watch TV any more because everything in screen became blurred. On the following day, when I was working, I couldn’t see the patients clearly either. Being unable to read and write, I felt my two eyes just like covered with two glass balls, extremely afflictive.
A much older couple just came for a second visit of treatment, and they were very worried about me. They would like to drive me Tongren Hospital for treating my eyes. I said to them: "No, I’ll go by myself a few days later. Tell me something about your situation now please."
Of this couple, the man was more than 50 years old, the woman was 47 years old, married for many years but without pregnancy. Ten years ago they came to my clinic for treatment and brought medicine for one month. Then they went abroad for doing business in many countries of the whole world. Now they became a millionaire, they came back, they grown older. In a famous reproductive center of Beijing, the couple tried three times of test-tube baby but failed to get pregnancy. One day, the man was faint in the hospital on the spot.
The man said: "Dr. Mo, 3 months ago, my wife went to Beijing Military General Hospital for a test of hormones. The doctor said she had senile changes at this age, this is her condition that any drug can’t help to reverse. But when we use herbal medicine treatment for 3 months here, the result of reexamination showed a complete normality of hormones, the intrauterine environment became better than that of young people. The doctor asked us again and again: what on earth the miraculous medicine you have used?
He said: "Dr. Mo, your medicine is so good, we put all our hopes on you. You can never be sick!" He asked again: "What’s the matter with your eyes?"
I said: "This year my eyes are always having a little fire, I didn't pay much attention to it, and most recently, talked about the two investments to open hospital, but finally it was not successful, so my eyes suddenly became painful and blurred."
He asked: "Open the hospital, how much money it should be?"
I say: "About thirty million!"
He said: "Wasn't it 30 million? Don't worry, let's find a unit or somebody to borrow." I was very grateful for his kindness, I also hoped that their dream of having a baby soon become true.
That my dream, let the infertility patients be cured successfully, let them have their children, and let them enjoy family happiness, when can be realized?
