On July 27, 2008, I flied from Beijing to Zhangjiajie. In the airport, the ground temperature was 450C. The hot sun baked the earth. The dark green trees under the sun were overflowing with vigour, full of vitality.
Recently, in Beijing in my home, I had a dream, in which I went back to Xiangxi, to Luxi county People's Hospital. After unwilling parting from my colleagues, I arrived Dalan Health Center, which was the first stop of my work. After saying good-bye to my dear colleagues there, I was again leaving for Heshui, my hometown.
This was a very strange dream. I spent two days for thinking it over and then realized the mystery. This was the guidance of God, letting me to find the power of the mother of the earth when I was tired in life.
Driving from Zhangjiajie to Heshui, the scenery on the way was beautiful. There was Furongzhen, where Liu Xiaoqing filmed here. There was Song Zuying's hometown Guzhan county, where producing the famous Maojian tea. And there was the beautiful ancient town Fenghuang, it was Shen Congwen's hometown.
In the evening, I finally reached my home Heshui.
In the large country house, only lived my elderly parents. They worked hard for decades of years, sons and daughters went to cities, leaving the house empty and the parents alone.
My parents were very happy when I arrived. The landscape in courtyard looked also more fresh. From the green leaves hanging from the eaves there were the red petunias in blossom. All of them symbolized the rising thriving of life.
However, parents were old in age, it was a sad reality. Maybe in my lifetime, I was always on the way of looking for the glorious career and looking for the life miracles, even nothing I found, I didn’t stop for a single minute to ask my parents whether they needed any help. Decades of years passed, they used their kindness to share the troubles of my life and work. Looking at their old appearance, I began to get to know what was a guilty feeling like.
Stayed at home for ten days, there came the beginning of autumn. As the autumn rain spilled, heat in the south was a little relieved. Summer was gone.
Saying good-bye to my parents, I prepared to go for starting again, to do the foundation of my career again.
Jishou is the capital city of Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Region. In this mountain city there are buildings and buildings standing and it is densely populated. Traffic is very heavy, people are very busy, making the city filled with endless bustle.
In 1994, I left Xiangxi LuXi County People's Hospital for Beijing to set up my own career, over the years it was always the focus of attention of people of my hometown. Within ten years, I have already cured thousands of infertility patients of China and all over the world, but without giving convenience to Xiangxi people who brought me up.
Since the year 2003, the leaders of National Hospital of Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Region always asked me and my sister to go back for the cooperation with the hospital for the contribution to the people of my hometown. Due to many reasons, the desire was not realized.
For more than 10 years, I have confirmed that our national medicines are the best ones for the treatment of infertility and gynecological diseases with thousands of successful cases in Beijing. And my son has grown up, he is independent now, I have no more worries. It is high time for me to come back to do something for the people of my hometown.
In the office of Xiangxi National Hospital, the Secretary and President gave me a cordial reception, and the luncheon was held in Jindie Hotel. It was a great warmth for my heart in my wandering life.
On August 18, 2008, the Infertility Department of National Hospital of Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Region was established. I became one of the staffs in this hospital.
The hospital assigned me a dormitory, in which there were two rooms and two small halls. I cleaned and whitewashed it, making it bright and comfortable. In the morning, in the street, there were many food stalls, selling pork rice noodles, beef rice noodles, handmade noodles, fried bread, and glutinous rice cakes, and so on. The Xiangxi breakfast was rich and colorful.
The lunch and dinner could also be solved in the restaurant in the street. There were many choices and they were very cheap.
All kinds of fruits, including kiwi fruits, grapes, peaches, pears, and so on, are fresh and sweet and cheap.
Next to my dormitory, there was a "food street". The restaurants were all Xiangxi style. Any general vegetables in the cooks’ hands would be managed into delicious dishes.
After eating all dishes in this street, I got to know what was life, what was delicious food in the world.
In Xiangxi, the Autonomous Region government and the hospital leaders gave me special support, they said: "You are in Beijing, we've been very caring about you, hope you can carry forward the Xiangxi Tujia Medicine, also hope you can come back soon to serve the hometown people. Since you came back, we will give you support as more as possible."
Then, within half a year, I set up the infertility clinics in the National Hospital and the People’s Hospital in Xiangxi Autonomous Region. They were the highest Chinese and western medicine hospitals in Xiangxi.
When patients got the news that I returned to Xiangxi, they went around telling the news and came in great numbers to see me. They said joyfully, "Dr. Mo, we know you are in Beijing, we know you are very famous, but it is too far from here, we can't find you, now you come back, it is really good!" I received the patients, but we feel like good neighbors and friends.
Sometimes people saw me in elevator, they always said with joy: "Oh, I know who you are, I saw you on TV!"
One day, in a taxi when I talked with the driver, I said: “I worked in Beijing for more than 10 years. I am a doctor.” The young man looked at me and said: "We Xiangxi have a doctor in Beijing, she is very famous in the world. It is you!" When I got off, he won't accept money, I had to throw five Yuan to him and left.
The colleagues were shouting: "Mo Laoye come back!" They helped me to buy curtains, to wash cloths, repair household appliances, change door locks, etc. They did everything meticulously. The kindness of people of my hometown made my tired life full of energy again. It is high time for me to return to serve the people of my hometown.
Example cases of National Hospital of Xiangxi Autonomous Region
1. Ms Shi, 28 years old, a cadre of Jishou Municipal Government, Xiangxi.
She married for 3 years without producing children. Pregnancy twice in 2006 and 2007, but because of suspending embryo growth she had uterine curettage in the third month of pregnancy. In 2008 the couple were diagnosed that the wife had the left side ovarian cyst and the husband had low rate of sperm activity and high rate of deformity. They came on September 19, 2008 for treatment.
After taking 30 doses of Chinese herbal medicines she got to be pregnant, then she took herbal medicines for protecting the fetus for 3 months. She gave birth to a girl in June 2009 and her daughter was in normal development.
2. Ms Xiang, 28 years old, a teacher of Furong primary school in Yongshun county of Hunan province.
She married on October 1, 2004. She visited for the first time on August 16, 2008.
She married for four years without producing children. In November 2004, she had natural abortion in about 40 days of pregnancy. In recent two years she didn’t get pregnancy in the condition without practicing contraception.
Since 2005, she had irregular menstruation, once every two or three months. From March 2007, she had amenorrhoea. Her menstruation came on artificial cycle treatment.
In October 2007, she had examinations in Hunan Xiangya Hospital. The ultrasound inspection reported: uterine dysplasia, chromosome normal. The hysterosalpingography reported: bilateral oviduct obstruction. The treatment with western medicine for 5 months was ineffective. With detection of six hormones, she was diagnosed polycystic syndrome.
The examination of her husband’s sperm: sperm survival rate 20%. The effect of the treatment of Chinese medicine Wuzi Yanzong Wan for five months was not helpful.
Diagnosis: abortion with unknown reasons, secondary infertility, amenorrhoea, polycystic ovary syndrome. The husband had asthenozoospermia.
Treatment: both the husband and wife took Chinese herbal medicine, after 3 months the wife was pregnant. In 2009, their daughter was born and she was in good health and in normal development.
3. Ms Lee, 35 years old, from Zhangjiajie Hunan province.
She was married in December, 2001. She came for the first visit on September 9, 2008.
She married for 7 years without producing children. Her menstruation was normal. In 2005, she had hydrotubation in Zhangjiajie People's Hospital and the report was “obstruction of fallopian tube”. Later the western medicine treatment for 3～4 months was ineffective. In April 2006, the oviduct intervention treatment was effective for one side of the oviduct, the other side was still in obstruction. Afterwards, she had ectopic pregnancy and the conservative treatment was applied.
In September 2007, she had hydrotubation in Zhangjiajie People's Hospital and the final result was that bilateral oviducts were unobstructed.
In August 2008 she tried test-tube baby but without success in Hunan Xiangya Hospital.
The husband was not in good health. He had hypertension and tiredness. His sperm survival rate was 10% and the deformity rate was 96%.
Diagnosis: secondary infertility, history of ectopic pregnancy. The husband had asthenozoospermia.
Treatment: 60 doses of herbal medicines for the husband and wife each. The wife got to be pregnant after she took 10 doses of medicines. The husband didn’t take any doses yet. Ultrasound examination showed a normal intrauterine pregnancy. A healthy and well-developed boy was born on April 22, 2009. Now their son was 5 months old.
Later they introduced many infertility patients to me to have treatment. It became a favorite story in Zhangjiajie.
4. Ms Zhang, 28 years old, from Baisha, Luxi county in Hunan province.
She married for five years without producing kids.
Diagnosis: secondary infertility.
She had successively three times of induced abortion. Even without practicing contraception, she was not able to be pregnant successfully.
Treatment: with treatment of Chinese herbal medicines for 2 months she was pregnant. When she came to tell me the good news she said: “My husband will award me two hundred thousand Yuan！
Then on April 28 this year, she gave birth to a boy. They came to my hometown Heshui to say thanks to me and set off firecrackers to express their gratitude.
5. Ms Tian, 32 years old, working in Xiangxi Jishou Municipal Kindergarten.
She was married on November 9, 2005. She came for the first visit on January 4, 2009.
She married for 3 years but without pregnancy. In March 2006, she had uterine curettage because of the suspending embryo growth. In November 2007, she had spontaneous abortion. Now she was pregnant 35 days, asking for treatment for fetus protection.
Her menstruation was normal. The last menstruation: November 29, 2008.
In July 2008 she had the examination in Hunan Xiangya Hospital: chromosome normal, gene abnormal, uterine and attachments normal. Her husband had examination: sperm normal.
Diagnosis: unexplained abortion; early pregnancy.
Treatment: she took Chinese herbal medicine for fetus protection for one month. She had full term pregnancy and then gave birth to a girl, who was in good health and well-developed.
6. Ms. Liu, 26 years old, from Yongding district, Zhangjiajie, Hunan province.
She married in September 2006. She came for the first visit on October 31, 2008. She married for two years without pregnancy.
History of disease: in October 2006 she had abortion when she was pregnant for two and half months. In April 2008 she had induced labour when she was pregnant for 8 months because the four-dimensional ultrasound examination reported that the fetus was in abnormal development. She was asking for treatment.
Her menstruation was normal. The last menstruation: October 26, 2008.
Her leucorrhea was normal. Ultrasound examination: uterus and accessories were normal.
Her husband had a mild impotence and premature ejaculation. His sperm was normal.
Diagnosis: unexplained abortion.
Treatment: the husband and wife had herbal treatment at the same time. Three months later she was pregnant. She gave birth to a girl on August 22, 2009. And the girl was in good health.
Example cases of Xiangxi People's Hospital
1. Ms Shu, 26 years old, a staff of Xiangxi National Hospital.
She married in March 2003. She came for the first visit on June 2, 2009.
She married for six years without pregnancy. After her abortion in 2003, she was not pregnant again. The treatment with both Chinese and western medicines was not effective for her.
Her menstruation was in small quantity. She used to have the artificial cycle treatment but without significant effect.
Diagnosis: secondary infertility. Treatment: herbal treatment, after one month was pregnant.
2. Ms Zhu, 23 years old, from Huanyuan county, Hunan province.
She married in March 2007, after 2 years she was without pregnancy. She came for the first time visit on April 20, 2009.
She had menarche when she was 13 years old. Her menstruation was regular and normal in quantity. The last menstruation: April 12, 2009.
In 2008 her examination in Xiangxi People’s Hospital reported: severe cervical erosion, mycoplasma infection, obstruction of fallopian tube. Treatment with western medicine for 3 months was not effective.
Diagnosis: primary infertility, bilateral fallopian tube obstruction, mycoplasma infection.
Treatment: she was pregnant after her had herbal medication for one month.
3. Ms Lu, 25 years old, from Zanxi, Meng Gong.
She married for 1 year without pregnancy. Her menstruation was irregular, in small quantity, and in dark red color. Ultrasound examination: the uterus developed normally. Her husband sperm was normal.
Diagnosis: primary infertility, irregular menstruation. Treatment: herbal treatment for 3 months, she was pregnant.
4. Ms Long, 35 years old, from Huayuan county Hunan province.
She was married in January 2000. She came for the first time visit on May 12, 2009.
She married for ten years and had one son. She had secondary infertility for more than 2 years.
In 2000, she gave birth to a healthy boy. In 2001, she had an abortion. Then she practiced contraception until 2007. In March 2007, she had abortion again.
Her menstruation was normal. Since 2006 she had less menstrual flow. In 2007, her menstruation became very very little, lasting only two days. The last menstruation: April 11, 2009
Her leucorrhea was normal. She had examinations in Maternity and Child Care Center of Huayuan county: uterus size 44×40×38mm3, suggesting the uterine atrophy.
Diagnosis: secondary infertility, uterine atrophy, oligomenorrhea.
Treatment: herbal medication for one month, after taking 20 doses she was pregnant.
The couple said: "We just couldn't believe it was so good in effect!"
5. Ms Tian, 24 years old, from Jishou, Hunan province.
She came for the first visit on July 29, 2009. She didn’t have pregnancy for four years with normal sexual life.
Her menarche was at the age of 12. Menstruation was once every 30 to 40 days, in normal color and quantity. In recent 2 years, her menstrual flow became less in quantity. The last menstruation: July 21, 2009.
Her leucorrhea was normal. Her ultrasound examination in Xiangxi People’s Hospital reported: the uterus anteversion, 39×31×27mm3, suggesting: uterine dysplasia.
Treatment: with herbal treatment, she was pregnant after taking 30 doses.
When she told her husband the good news, her husband said suspiciously: "You don't cheat me again please!" The wife had to show the testing report of the hospital for confirmation. The couple embraced each other with happiness.
